Trapped.

It may take a minute to get their attention,
but once it's given, it's yours.
Another author, scientist or artist is inside them,
don't you wonder what it's like to walk in their shoes?
Maybe they dream of their own dreams,
a passion that wishes it had the opportunity.
A chance to show the world what's trapped inside,
if only their restrictions wouldn't let them hide.
Forced to accept society and be told what to do and when to do it.
There are some that hang on a thin thread,
but I'm talking about the ones with a balance.

( another example )

A mind containing many clever thoughts and words,
they complain for they'll never be spoken.
A mouth that can't speak on a face most people see and avoid,
a smile with drool trailing it's way off both lips.
Trapped underneath what the world sees,
frustration only shows when something doesn't go their certain way.
An excuse to throw tantrums,
revealing the true sadness that's locked within them.
We see an unstable person,
when it's an unfair soul that's trying to express what's felt deeply from within.

People who may know friends or strangers with birth defects relating to down syndrome, autism or any type of permanent sickness, I'm sorry you have to see and deal with them every once in a while, but just remember that they could be people just like us, just like you. What sucks is they don't get that chance to show you who they are. If they have dreams to be something, to talk to a girl they like or the least to talk correctly. This really strikes a nerve in me, but my perspective has drastically changed. I will write about how soon. So next time you see someone relating to this, I hope you'll have a different outlook. Now there's something else to think about than calling them retarded.
